As an NHA-Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, I support direct patient care in outpatient clinical settings. At Peridot Primary Care, I serve as one of two Medical Assistants helping support more than 25 patients each day.
Key responsibilities:
Conduct patient intake and obtain vital signs
Prepare examination rooms and clinical supplies
Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, urinalysis, and specimen processing
Assist with vaccinations and clinical procedures
Support medical documentation, scheduling, and patient communication
Communicate relevant findings and concerns to the clinical team
This experience has strengthened my technical abilities while teaching me how efficiency, attention to detail, and clear communication influence each patient’s experience.
As a volunteer EMT, I respond to medical and traumatic emergencies in my community while working alongside experienced EMS professionals.
Key responsibilities:
Assess patients and obtain vital signs
Support emergency care within my EMT scope of practice
Respond to medical emergencies and traumatic injuries
Communicate patient findings to EMS partners and receiving teams
Reassure patients and families during stressful situations
Participate in station drills, training, and community-service activities
Emergency response has taught me to remain composed, communicate clearly, and focus on the patient when circumstances change quickly..
Through more than 100 hours of Emergency Department volunteering, I support patients, families, and clinical staff in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Assist patients and families with nonclinical needs
Communicate patient concerns to appropriate staff members
Prepare and restock examination rooms
Maintain supplies, linens, and essential equipment
Observe the patient-care process from triage through disposition
Support department readiness for incoming patients
This experience has shown me how compassion, organization, and teamwork contribute to care even when one is not providing the medical treatment directly.

I observed patient histories, physical examinations, diagnostic reasoning, treatment planning, and physician-patient communication across acute and longitudinal care settings. Comparing emergency medicine with family medicine and specialty care helped me understand how urgency, continuity, and collaboration shape different clinical decisions.
